Last week I wrote about the limitations you put on yourself by having self-doubt. In short, when you have self-doubt, you are telling yourself that you don’t have self-belief, and without that belief then how are you going to push yourself forward in life, and how are you going to get to where you want to be? What I wanted to do was write down a few ways that can help you to ditch the doubt:
So let's get stuck in!
This might sound silly to you but honestly it works. Make yourself a mantra, now this could be anything from how beautiful you are to how successful you are.
When you’re feeling low or feeling that self-doubt then reach for your mantra. Stand in front of a mirror and repeat it to yourself. Let it reaffirm who you are and give you that confidence to let the doubt pass.
Doubt once again means that we have lost that belief in ourselves and if we want to ditch the doubt then we have to get that belief back. So this is perfect for that.
Get a pad and pen and write down as many reasons as you can as to why you’re awesome - see if you can get to 100! This will start to make you question all the positives in your life, boost your self-confidence and get that self-belief flowing again.
Once you have this don’t just throw it away. If you think of something new the next day, then add it to the list. Keep this list going for as long as you can and be as big headed as you want to! (no one has to see it apart from you!) Really go ahead and toot your own horn. When you feel that doubt creep in, read through your list – fuel up your confidence again.
You, and only you can alter and change the way that you feel. You are the one who decides whether that feeling stays or goes and only you can decide to move on. Make that choice in your head to let the doubt pass. Notice it arrive, assess it when it’s there, then release it along with your negative energy and make the conscious decision to move to a more positive space. You don’t have to understand it or psychoanalyse yourself, just understand it’s there and that emotions can go just as easily as they come to you. You won’t be in that negative space for long.
The power of the visual is amazing. Something simple as advertising for example - You see an advert or billboard for a product and in some cases are so drawn to it, it persuades you to buy it! See? The power of the visual.
So, let that happen in your life. Dream boards are great for so many reasons, but getting rid of doubt is one of them. When you have a moment, make a collage of everything you want in your life and where you want to be in a few years time, find pictures in magazines, on the internet, draw…let your creativity go wild.
Let it reignite the fire to achieving your goals. Then whenever you feel doubt, take a moment to look at it and reflect. Give yourself that time and space to understand again why you’re heading in the direction that you are and let that doubt fade away.
This is the biggest one! Don’t forget what you have already accomplished in life! This is so easy to do, to forget and to move on. But when you have done something amazing hold onto it and reflect back on it when you need it…like when self-doubt hits. Remember that driving test you passed? Those GCSE grades you worked hard for? The singing competition you won? that feeling when you read you first book with no pictures?! Go as far back in life as you need to and write down all of your achievements. When you have limited self-belief, look back over this list and remind yourself of what you’ve already managed to achieve, let that get rid of the doubt and light you up.
These are just 5 ways to try and help you to ditch the doubt next time it hits. I hope they help and let me know if they do!
And you can do it.
