Choices

We have choices.

We make choices every day.

We learn from the choices we make.

We grow from the choices we make.

We make choices that guide us on our journey through life.

As you can probably guess – I want to talk about choices.

I want to start by saying that our choices do not define us. We are not our choices. We simply have a decision to make at any given time and we make a choice. It just so happens that those choices push us in one direction or another.

Every single day we make a million and one different decisions that dictate how our day pans out – do we decide to go to the gym or not? Do we have that green smoothie or a bar of chocolate? Do we wake up early to go for a run or have a lie in? Should I cook a loving meal at home or eat take out? Should I continue this argument with my partner or make out with them instead?

Our days are shaped by the choices we make – our choices do not define us but in some way they do shape us to be one way or another. That being said – if you want to make a change in your life then that also has to come through your choices. If you want something different then you have to choose to do things differently. After all nothing ever changes unless you decide it’s time to make a change.

So why talk about choices?

We all know we make them, don’t we? Of course we do – but most of the time we aren’t 100% aware of the choices we are making or how impactful they will be on our lives or our thought processes.

We need to start being conscious of our decision making.

Why?

I know how hard life is. I know how hard it is to make long lasting and sustainable changes both in our lifestyle and diet. It’s challenging, I’m not going to lie – I mean, of course it is, if it wasn’t then those changes would have happened a long time ago. If you want to start making those changes, the first thing you have to consider is this:

Are my choices serving me?

Once you become aware of the decisions your making, then you can truly align them with your goals. Not only do you start making smarter choices, but all of a sudden you take back the power and control over your life. The outcome of your days, weeks, months, years are now determined by the conscious choices you make. That’s what gives you the power so you can take charge of your own life.

We need to stop the excuses.

There are so many ways to define excuses but really what it comes down to are a series of choices that take us away from where we truly want to be. If you really want something then you will make the choices that align with your end goal – they will serve you and your purpose. The problem is most of the time these choices are the harder ones to make! The easier path is the most comfortable because it’s what we know. So, the more excuses you make, the more you will stay on the same path you’re on and the further you will get from your end goal.

It’s easy to give a list of reasons why something didn’t happen for us but the next time that happens dissect your decision making. Ask yourself if you could have made slightly different choices. Ask yourself why you made those decisions that led you to where you are. Could you have done anything differently?

Life shouldn’t be difficult but it is challenging sometimes. We get thrown curve balls; things happen to us that we aren’t expecting – in short, shit happens. It’s our choices that dictate how we react and that define our immediate future.

Be conscious of the choices you are making and make sure that they align with you, your purpose and your intentions. Ask yourself:

Do these choices align with:

  • Who I want to be?
  • Where I want to be?
  • How I want my life to unfold?
  • My goals?
  • My dreams?
  • My intentions?
  • My aims in life?
  • My soul?
  • My physical energy?
  • My emotional energy?
  • My purpose?

The more aware of the choices you are making, the more you will live your life with meaning and purpose. Taking charge of your life comes from knowing that you have the power to make the change you want to see – it may not always be easy, it may take time and it might mean giving out more energy than you have, but you HAVE that power. You can take back control over the outcomes of your actions. Don’t let your excuses define you. If you make a ‘bad’ decision, just choose not to see it as one – choose to see it as a learning experience.

You are more than your excuses.

You are more than your choices.

You are powerful.

It’s that power that has the ultimate control over your choices to take you to where you want to be.

Take charge.
