“Women turn to food when they are not hungry because they are hungry for something they can’t name.”
'Women Food And God' by Geneen Roth is the perfect book to read if you’ve ever suffered with a disordered relationship with food. If you have suffered with your relationship with food, from under-eating to binge-eating, then this book challenges you to confront your ‘why’ behind your actions to help you towards healing.
The core to her work is that everything is connected to the way you eat, including your beliefs about life and she asks you to question what it is you feel is missing from your life or what you need more of. This is something that not only resonates with me, but something that I use in my practice all the time and that I believe helps you on the road to true healing and freedom when it comes to the food you eat.
“Compulsive eating is a way we distance ourselves from the way things are when they are not how we want them to be.”
“Staying where you are with what you are feeling or seeing or sensing is the first step in ending the obsession with food.”
“The shape of your body obeys the shape of your beliefs about love, value and possibility. To change your body, you must first understand that which is shaping it. Not fight it.”
“When you believe in yourself more than you believe in food, you will stop using food as if it were your only chance at not falling apart.”
“The desire to eat when you are not hungry reveals what you truly believe about life here on earth.”
